yep, I noticed that the second time I watched it. That was a very nice bookend to his illness, wasn't it? I love seeing that kind of thought go into things. Yea, I only noticed it upon second viewing too! I love those details!

Yea, I only noticed it upon second viewing too! I love those details! Did anyone notice during the cocaine buying scenes that 13 was shot with side mirror included that said "objects in mirror are closer than they appear?" I thought it might have been a meta statement about how 13 is now always everywhere.

Cuddy really ought to get a pet. Why? Cuddy loves the challenge that House represents. If she wanted "easy," he wouldn't be around. Think back to lube guy, in which she was pleasant and sexy and all of those other things around him, but even he noticed how much more alive she was when she was dealing with House. Yes, he's a pain in the ass, but he touches something in her that a conventional relationship may not -- both in professional and personal terms. Cuddy, to me, is like a race driver or extreme sports junkie who thrives in high stress and andrenalin situations. It scares the crap out of you, but it also gets your heart racing, your brain is in overdrive and you notice absolutely everything. House pushes her into that zone. It's the reason she can't let him go -- because she's addicted to that state as much as he's addicted to the Vicodin and his puzzles. But at the same time, I think that's also the reason why she's drawn a line in the past between them -- and why there won't be any long term relationship now -- because that state of euphoria is intoxicating, but it'll wear you out if you try to live in it full time. Did anyone notice during the cocaine buying scenes that 13 was shot with side mirror included that said "objects in mirror are closer than they appear?" I thought it might have been a meta statement about how 13 is now always everywhere. Or, that's the standard warning that's in absolutely every passenger side mirror that's made, and it'd be ridiculous to go out and and have a special one made for a 10-second glance in a scene.

On a professional level, yes, I can see Cuddy getting something out of House. Totally. Most (not all) but most of their clashes in dynamics are of a professional nature with a healthy helping of lewd innuendo thrown in. But on a personal level, Cuddy also feels that House brings everyone down around him. Granted this is TV land, but as the seasons pass I find it more and more implausible that someone like Cuddy could maintain any sort of personal relationship with House because the returns are so limited and are getting more and more difficult to outweigh the cons. At least Wilson gets to go bowling. Or, that's the standard warning that's in absolutely every passenger side mirror that's made, and it'd be ridiculous to go out and and have a special one made for a 10-second glance in a scene. Everything is shot for a reason. ;-)

That's true; every shot on this show is deliberate, with lots of planning. That mirror didn't have to be in the shot.

I think that's part of the big draw with House, and I think that's an excellent observation. Also, it echos what Stacy said about having a relationship with House. The addictiveness of him, and the comparison to the vindaloo curry--"No matter how much you love curry, you have too much of it, it takes the roof of your mouth off". I think that translates to why a long term relationship wouldn't work between Cuddy and House, either.

Boffle- 10-30-2008

But, oh, the curry! I knew I was hungry for something! Indian food, yeah that's it...

I just like the tiny details of the show; it shows that the producer has a real attention to the fine points. Like, when 13 and Taub tells House about the cocaine, House pours sugar on the table, then takes a credit card and starts playing with the sugar as if he were cutting up cocaine. The soft, gruff "Good night" before he abruptly left Cuddy's apartment. Perfectly played.

Boffle- 10-30-2008

Agree Rachel Sue, also the very quiet "I don't know" before the kiss and after, Cuddy's return "good night" just before he closes the door: she's stunned but starting to consider what just happened (as are we). (I thought part of the reason for the credit card might have been subtle product placement since it's shown to be a platinum Visa card, but cool nonetheless.)

bailey - At least Wilson gets to go bowling. I don't think it's possible to equate House's friendship with Wilson with House's friendship with Cuddy, or to view the latter with the lenses of the former. Cuddy doesn't go out bowling with House and play games with him. - possibly because she doesn't want to, or even need to? But they *are* friends, in their own strange way - as the Judge said in 'Words and Deeds', 'You have better friends than you deserve.' Not all friendships are defined by the same parameter; theirs have never been very simple. I didn't need Wilson to articulate why he wanted to be House's friend, despite everything - fun as the articulation was. Same with Cuddy. It'll be fun to have a concrete statement, but I don't really need it.

That's probably true too! :) Nice to know House gets the Platinum card. I always thought maybe the guy had credit problems or something considering he's always borrowing money off everyone, especially Wilson. BTW, it is his card, right? Also, Cuddy doesn't just say, good-night. She says, "Good-night, Greg." After about the, oh I don't know, 40th time watching the last scene, I suddenly realized she calls him Greg. You can barely hear it because L.E. is kind of mumbling, but she definitely calls him Greg. I can't recall Cuddy ever calling House by his first name. I loved that.

swatkat- 10-31-2008

Hugh_lover - 'Greg'? I'm pretty sure I didn't hear it. I thought she said 'G'night.'

Boffle- 10-31-2008

Ooh now i have to go back and watch again to catch that last Greg. Damn! :-) Somehow that makes it all better. Right now anyway.
