I seem to remember KJ saying in an interview that House didn't want to father Cuddy's baby, he just didn't want anyone else to do it either. And he doesn't want to be romantically involved with Cuddy, he just doesn't want anyone else to be either. That's always summed up his attitude pretty well for me.
LightMyCandle- 10-21-2008
I think he was hurt that she told Wilson and not him plus he's upset about such a big change in his life. The fact that Wilson was involved in the decision to adopt means he'll probably be involved with the child. House expects -- demands -- to be the neediest person in both their lives.
I don't think he was hurt that she told Wilson and not him. I think the only thing he was upset about was yet another huge change in his life, right after he has restored balance to his relationship with Wilson. I don't think it has anything to do with wanting to be a sperm donor or that she went to Wilson and not him, I think it's all about him freaking out over this roller coaster of the two people he really cares about changing on him. He wants to keep the three of them as they are. A baby will change that, and unlike Wilson's girlfriends/wives, he can't just run a baby off.
IHARTHUGH- 10-21-2008
I totally agree with LightMyCandle - House hates change and a baby in Cuddy's life will definitely cause changes - he'll know her non-work time will likely be focused on the baby/child, and even more importantly, he will be much less able to engage her emotional focus (am not speaking of romantically necessarily). He'll know that the center of her life is not him. He'll have to accept this new entity in her life and it will be a permanent change - a sharing that he hasn't wanted to have to do.

I actually think the actress who played the patient tonight could play the 13 role much better. She wasn't fantastic, but she is more emotive and interesting. She would have been a better casting choice
And, like OW, she's willing to take her clothes off and kiss other woman.
I'm glad for OW that she's getting better at acting but no one is paying me to watch her practice. Too much of the show I love is being taken up with this boring story line. We get a few seconds of really good stuff with Chase and Foreman or House and Wilson, a parachuting in of Cameron so we know she's not dead, and then it's back to the badly acted angst.
This episode felt like a "Love me! Pick me!" episode for 13. Enough, already. I'm sorry for her but I just don't care.
I'd hoped for better from Liz Friedman. And House's prurient lesbian snarks felt wrong coming from her.

But no one else is fathering her baby, she's adopting. Knowing how badly she wants a child and still not being okay with this is pretty dog-in-the-manger.

I agree with LMC for the most part. :) I think part of it is that Wilson hid this from House and here House thought they were all buddy-buddy again, only to find him hiding something first thing back.
And...I think House's own guilt plays a role too. House was pretty awful to Cuddy during the last baby arc, so naturally Cuddy would keep it from House. I think House might be upset with himself more than with Cuddy.
NightOwl- 10-21-2008
Is anyone willing to do the tally of 13's screen time vs. House's screen time?
LightMyCandle- 10-21-2008
I'm glad for OW that she's getting better at acting but no one is paying me to watch her practice.
Well, nobody paid me to watch JM practice acting for three years either but that's what I did.

Hmm, I think House was definately hurt at the beginning when he knew Wilson was lying, but at the end Wilson did tell him the truth...or purposely led him to the truth. House was just going to keep tracking Wilson until he found out what was going on, and Wilson knew that so he told him to prevent more stalking. I don't think House was upset at the end because Wilson hid this from him. I think he was just blindsided and he's already suffered losing Wilson and he doesn't want to go through that with Cuddy too. Granted, it's not exactly the same but Cuddy as a mommy knocks House out of first place in her life.
If it had been something else, I might have been annoyed at Wilson keeping secrets from House again, so soon after reuiniting, but I can see how he was put in an awkward position. Cuddy is his friend too (I know not everybody sees it that way, but I do) and he didn't want to betray her but I also don't think he wanted to lie to House.

You're right. Just re-watched it, and Cuddy clearly doesn't believe Wilson when he says House must have followed him...and I forgot he told House to meet him at 8. I don't think House is hurt by Wilson, either. But I do think he feels guilt regarding what he's said to Cuddy in the past. But that would mean continuity, so who knows.

They should just start producing the show as a series of one acts. House/Wilson scenes worked. House/Wilson/Cuddy scene worked. Foreman/Chase scene worked.
Precious little else did. I can't help thinking that 13's slow motion death is some sort of metaphor for the show.
I'm not sure what show I'm watching anymore. I do think, though, that Hugh should double check his trailer door and make sure the star is still on it.
angelcat2865- 10-21-2008
Interesting episode too much Thirteen for my likes, but still good. I liked that House tried to help Thirteen in his own housesion way. Loved House leaving Wilson milk and a doughnut to find after his prank. Also loved Chase in this episode. He was just perfect. And yes it is now canon Foreman is boring. 8)
Housecall- 10-21-2008
I have no feeling for the character of 13, none what so ever. I do not know why the writers have such a thing for her. She is totally boring, I was really hoping she stayed fired. The only high lights in tonights episode where the House and Wilson, great that they are back together again, and playing thieir little tricks on each other. But the heart breaking part for me was in the baby store. House was clearly upset that cuddy had not told him about her plan for adoption. I can not wait until next week to see what happens next!
Hugh_lover- 10-21-2008
Okay, I know a lot of people are saying House is upset because things are going to change big time between him and Cuddy and just after he got Wilson back too. But, I have to say I didn't get House's reaction. It left me confused.
Not about House being shocked, I mean I had no idea that was going to happen (I try and stay away from the Spoiler thread) so I was freakin' shocked myself. Hugh played House shocked really well. But then he swallowed hard and I swear I thought House choked up! I'm with Sasmom, he seemed to put the glasses on in order to hide how much it affected him, and then he walks out. I was like what the hell? Not really sure what that reaction was about.
Overall, I liked the episode, not on my favorite's list, but it had a lot of good parts to it. I actually liked Foreman in this one, and normally I don't. I loved House, as usual, and his excitement at having Wilson back. House smiled so much in this episode. I loved that. And, it feels good to have the boys (H/W) back together. :D

Notice that the "else" was the bits with the new team? I still like the PI though.

Maybe. But Cameron never got the screentime 13 is getting, much less called upon to carry the episode the way 13 is here and in Dying Changes Everything.

Agreed about Foreman.
I'm sure House doesn't even know where that reaction came from. I have a whole lot of shipper theories about it, but I think it's probably some mixture of shock, jealousy, and maybe a little loneliness. Cuddy and Wilson left him out of this big secret, and that's got to hurt. I think the only time House really feels part of a social "group" is when he is with Wilson and/or Cuddy. The banter between the three of them works so well, and they are very supportive of one another (in their own weird ways). To be left out of something between Wilson and Cuddy just when he felt like his life was back on track came out of left field and got him all at once. So he put on his sunglasses and left.
ETA: In case anyone's interested, the lyrics for "Dark Road" by Annie Lennox, which played over the House/Cuddy/Wilson scene and the 13/OFC scene. Maybe they'll help us understand what was going through House's mind at the end:
It's a dark road
And a dark way that leads to my house
And the word says
You're never gonna find me there oh no
I've got an open door
It didn't get there by itself
It didn't get there by itself
There's a feelin
But you're not feelin' it at all
There's a meaning
But you're not listening any more
I look at that open road
I'm gonna walk there by myself
And if you catch me
I might try to run away
You know I can't be here too long
And if you let me
I might try to make you stay
Seems you never realise a good thing
Till it's gone..
Maybe im still searchin
But I dont know what it means
All the fires of destruction are still
Burnin' in my dreams
There's no water that can wash away
This longin' to come clean
Hey yea yea....
I can't find the joy within my soul
It's just sadness takin hold
I wanna come in from the cold
And make myself renewed again
It takes strength to live this way
The same old madness every day
I wanna kick these blues away
I wanna learn to live again...
It's a dark road
And a dark way that leads to my house
And the word says
You're never gonna find me there oh no
I've got an open door
It didn't get there by itself
It didn't get there by itself

Overall I liked the episode. For the first 15 minutes or so I was feeling kind of bored (and there was a time when I couldn't imagine being bored by any part of House) but I finally got into it and enjoyed the rest of the show.
I didn't even hate 13 tonight. High praise indeed. But oh my gosh, how can the people who run this show give so much time to 13 and so little time to Chase? I don't know what they're thinking. Are they thinking?
I've heard that the PI spinoff idea has been dumped, so TPTB apparently could judge audience reaction in some way and determined that the character did not strike a chord in enough viewers to warrant his own show. Well guys, neither does 13. Is it too much to hope for that TPTB have also noted that most of the audience is not nearly as enamored of 13 as the writers are? Oh please. Oh please.
