5.05 - Lucky Thirteen
When a woman with whom Thirteen had a one-night stand falls ill and has a seizure at Thirteen's apartment after a night of partying, Thirteen accompanies the woman to Princeton-Plainsboro where House and the team take on her case. House jumps on the opportunity to delve into Thirteen's personal life, and he and Foreman search Thirteen's apartment to find any possible causes of the woman's illness. Thirteen suspects the woman's drug use has caused her condition, but she soon finds the patient has a long medical history and has seen several doctors over the past few years. She soon finds out the patient slept with her only to get to Dr. House, and that she had been trying to get House to take her as a patient for over a year. Foreman sees evidence of Thirteen's hard-partying lifestyle and confronts her about her self-destruction, warning her that her attitude is sending her life and her job into a downward spiral. Meanwhile, House keeps his private investigator, Lucas (guest star Michael Weston), hot on Wilson's trail in the "Lucky Thirteen" episode of HOUSE airing Tuesday, Oct. 21 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/ PT) on FOX. "13's Carpet Cleaner" - how they hell did they get that past the censors?! The Brian's Song joke made me laugh out loud. That movie makes me bawl like a baby. Interesting House reactions to Cuddy and Wilson

LightMyCandle- 10-21-2008

Oh Lord, for a second I thought Wilson had gone full Vertigo. Thank God it turned out to be a joke. And I must ask, how is it possible that Chase just keeps upping his awesomness level? Seriously, every week, he's better and better. Loved his scene with Foreman. And it's officially canon, Foreman is boring. They said it. The finally said it.

Chipmunk_love- 10-21-2008

I KNEW IT!!!!!!!! Who called Wilson knowing about Cuddy's adoption? Chippers called Wilson knowing about Cuddy's adoption. You may thank me now. That was an interesting reaction. I think House was a bit upset that he wasn't asked. After all, who knows more about Cuddy's baby issues than House. So, this wasn't my favorite episode ever, but I loved the House/Wilson, and I do think that 13/Foreman has possibilities. If she would stop being a skank. Oh, and Chase's eyes? Perfection. Chase and Foreman are really shaping up to be BFFs. Maybe they should have a double date with House and Wilson.

Taiga- 10-21-2008

I was completely grossed out by the carpet cleaner joke too, but didn't get the Brian's Song reference except that it seemed to be a jab at Wilson's taste in music. Yay for Cuddy! I hope she gets her baby, I want her to be happy. Since no one in Houseworld is happy, though, I have a bad feeling about this. I figured Wilson was pranking House, but was really starting to wonder if he WAS dating a prostitute when he overplayed his hand with the needles. I saw an episode of Medical Mysteries where the patient ended up having that autoimmune disease that affects your tear and saliva glands. I don't remember that it affects bone marrow or causes lung cysts, but I'm no medical expert. I just remember that yes, she suffered for years before a doctor took her seriously. Actually I think it was an eye doctor who made the diagnosis. We may see a friendship forming between Foreman and Thirteen. Maybe that will be interesting because even now, I still don't find Thirteen herself interesting. I just don't care. I'm a bit worried by Wilson assuring House "nothing's changed". Does that mean he's going back to enabling House? Did we go through that arc for nothing?

travlncarrie- 10-21-2008

Ugh, the feed I was watching cut out BEFORE the diagnosis. I could hear it but not see it!! Thank goodness it'll be on for real in two hours :) I was dying not being able to see the very end for House's reaction. Bows down to Chippers, the all knowing one. ;)

No "bit" upset about it. House was really, really upset. Put those shades back on his eyes to try and hide it (I think). Hmmm. As much as things with Wilson didn't change--and how relieved he was about it--now things must change with Cuddy. Everything changes around him. Also, anyone think that House's speech to 13 was a little bit like his "pain" speech to Foreman in Euphoria? Talking much about himself, in a sort of "I've been down this road" way? I KNEW IT!!!!!!!! Who called Wilson knowing about Cuddy's adoption? Chippers called Wilson knowing about Cuddy's adoption. You may thank me now. That was an interesting reaction. I think House was a bit upset that he wasn't asked. After all, who knows more about Cuddy's baby issues than House. This was another one of those episodes where I kept looking at the clock thinking, "Shouldn't this be over?" At 7:24 I thought it should be at least a quarter 'til. The problem is OW. I think another actress could sell this role. But her acting is so flat that I can't feel anything for the character. For instance, when the patient was about to crash she said, "Get the paddles" with all the urgency of someone who had just agreed to play ping-pong with their annoying little brother. Speaking of annoying little brothers, the scene with Chase and Foreman was awesome. It was everything I loved about their dynamic. It's two male characters with nothing remotely sexual in their chemistry, but they make every scene work. I think their dynamic is very much big brother/little brother and it works for them. Foreman was completely full of himself, as always. Since when has the new team kissed his ass? LOL And Chase was honest without being too snarky. I LOL'd when Chase told him that he was boring. It's funny because it's true. I'm interested to know if this is another episode that featured 13 more than House because it felt that way. I hope someone will time it like they did the premiere.

didn't get the Brian's Song reference except that it seemed to be a jab at Wilson's taste in music. Actually, Brian's Song is a movie, a really sad movie.

Taiga- 10-21-2008

Whoops, three more things to add. 1) I'm also bowing to Chipmunk, 2) is it me or did the patient not get a name until over halfway through the episode? and 3) what did House say Wilson's first wife was? Fourth thing: I'm seriously wondering if the beginning and end scenes are Fox hoping to lure in viewers with promises of future lesbian sex scenes. ETA Fifth thing and then I'll shut up. I didn't want to be the one to say it but I think extra cat is right, the reason Thirteen isn't interesting is because of the actress playing her.

extra_cat- 10-21-2008

Oh, I also thought that 13 was a lot like Foreman with her "It's all about me!!!" attitude toward the patient's need to see House and also with her desire to release a sick patient because of her personal prejudice. It brought to mind the Foreman who wanted to throw Victoria out of the hospital in Histories.

Chipmunk_love- 10-21-2008

2) is it me or did the patient not get a name until over halfway through the episode? That dawned on me when they finally said her name towards the end. Funny thing was, didn't care 'til that point. and 3) what did House say Wilson's first wife was? She had a wooden leg.

So sue me, I liked it. (But I don't find Thirteen to be the antichrist, so ...) Great themes throughout on people finding themselves back where they started and not quite able to deal with the changes they're facing -- whether that's Thirteen or Foreman or House, who thinks life is back to normal now that Wilson's here again, but yet can't even process a "congratulations" to Cuddy for her news. Thirteen trying to fill the numbness of the diagnosis, but finding that "life" she was pretending to enjoy to be empty was heartbreaking, and I thought was well underplayed with the numbness that she was feeling. (Yeah, I know, I keep missing the official fandom meme that OW is the world's worst actress. Sorry about that.) I thought it was interesting to see how this turned out to be as much about Foreman -- the move toward taking himself less seriously -- taking him off of his own pedestal, if you will -- as much as anything. I loved his comment to Chase that he expects him to be honest with him, because Chase isn't going to sugar coat something because Chase doesn't give a crap for that. It was a nice reflection of how their careers and lives have gone in divergent paths and Chase's self-confidence now gives him a freedom and honesty that Foreman lacks. Loved the interactions with House and Wilson getting back on their normal footings, with a side of Lucas. My favorite line may have been when they were watching Wilson play the carjacking video game, from Lucas: "He'd get a lot further if he didn't stop for red lights." Hee. But poor Cuddy, at one of her happiest moments, unable to really share it with the people she cares about, and House, having his world rocked once again.

So sue me, I liked it. (But I don't find Thirteen to be the antichrist, so ...) I agree with both statements. There were some nice moments in there. And Chase? Delightful. So glad we're getting more of him.
