I'll take your word for it, Nightowl. I just don't remember the entry looking like that.
If it helps, I agree with Nightowl. I think it's clearly Amber's place. I was a bit confused during the scene with the PI in the ice cream truck since it looked like a residential neighborhood, rather than the apartment, but then realized that he had the PI spying on O'Shea at that point, and the PI changed the topic to Wilson.

You mean the PI was spying on O'Shea at that point in his professional relationship with House, right? Not that O'Shea was his quarry in the ice-cream truck stakeout. I was pretty sure that the IC stakeout was a non-House related gig for the PI and that House was just there to consult with him. Otherwise, that would mean O'Shea is having sex with his sister. Ew.

Yes, in the ice cream truck scene, they were spying on O'Shea at O'Shea's house. I don't think our Greg House would accompany the PI on a stakeout that isn't relevant to his own life.
I don't think O'Shea is really having an affair with his own sister, however; I think that was just a joke.

Either way, I don't think they did a very good job of making clear whose house they were spying on at that moment. You guys have me confused now, and I'm wondering what I actually saw.
Thanks for the excuse to re-watch.

Well, not many apartments have that particular blue paint on the walls. In fact, most apartments have white or cream walls. I doubt that Wilson got a new apartment and asked the landlord to paint it the same blue from his old apartment (Amber's).
Both Wilson's office and Amber's apartment have horrid turqoise paint, maybe Wilson likes that colour. Blech!

If they were spying on O'Shea, it was not very subtle of House to park his motorcycle there. I would imagine most of the staff at PPTH would recognize it.

They were definitely spying on O'Shea. It's all in the scene set-up and dialogue:
House: What if a kid wants ice cream?
Lucas: Sign outside says "closed." Dr. O'Shea is not right for you.
House: What'd you find out?
Lucas: Why are you investigating him?
House: Because I need to know if he lends money interest-free.
House already knows at this point that O'Shea will buy him lunch; now he needs more information.
After that bit of dialogue, Lucas goes into his speech about the three kinds of people who hire him. He says that House has hired him to investigate the wrong person (O'Shea), and that the person House should hire him to investigate is actually Wilson.

This is precisely why I need this board. I completely missed that they were spying on O'Shea.

I thought at first it was Amber/Wilsons house, but now I see that's not true. Somehow I don't believe that House would pay the PI to spy on O'Shea, I never got the impression he seriously considers taking him on as his new best friend. So I guess I think the PI is at some other job, where House visits him, and they talk about O'Shea and Wilson.
idonmatrix- 10-07-2008
But the PI did charge House $900 for spying on O'Shea and for checking out Wilson. Well the PI checked out House which is how he found out about Wilson.
IHARTHUGH- 10-07-2008
I still don't think it's Shea's house. Partly because House says to Lucas, after the bit quoted above, something about that Lucas is spying a guy who's sleeping with his sister, or something like that (sorry - I re-watched the episode a couple of days ago and already my memory is fading - a better memory than Hugh claims to have, perhaps, but pretty faulty). I think House was just hanging with Lucas in the truck and talking about his work for him - after all soon their conversation turns to the fact that Lucas knows House is interested in Wilson - and that oh-so-poignant moment when House kind of swallows and asks if there's anything Lucas had learned about Wilson that shows he wants House in his life (am very loosely characterizing).
